Professor dr.ir. Floris Boogaard PhD has over 25-year experience in research and consultancy in international climate adaptation. His projects integrate the worlds of spatial planning and water management with a focus on the implementation of nature-based solutions and sustainable urban drainage systems. Floris Boogaard accepted a professorship Spatial Transformations at the school of Architecture, Built Environment & Civil Engineering at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen in 2013 working on urban climate adaptation around the world in close relation with other (applied) universities. Floris Boogaard is currently a consultant water and subsurface at Deltares.nl and an affiliated researcher at The Global Centre of Adaptation (GCA.org) that accelerates climate adaptation by recognizing, building and promoting excellence among all relevant stakeholder groups around the world. His general research and advice fields include climate adaptation, stormwater drainage and infiltration, river rehabilitation, complex monitoring and urban water(quality) management.
Floris Boogaard won the national climate adaptation award in 2014 and was nominated as engineer of the year in 2011 and professor of the year in 2021. Floris is CEO of the company www.INDYMO.nl (innovative dynamic monitoring systems) that monitors the effects of (climate) change on watersystems with innovative high techniques as submerged ROVs and aquabots. Floris Boogaard won the national climate adaptation award in 2014 and was nominated as engineer of the year in 2011 and professor of the year in 2021. Floris Boogaard launched tools such as www.climatescan.org: a citizen science tool with over 12000 Best Management Practices on climate adaptation. Floris is co-founder of ClimateCafé: a field education concept involving different fields of science and practice for capacity building in climate change adaptation with over 50th action events on climate adaptation around the world to accelerate climate adaptation (www.climatecafe.nl).
