Renāte Lagzdiņa is the founder and director of the urban gardening project “Sporta pils dārzi” (Gardens of Sporta pils) in Riga, Latvia, and a curator of several cultural and public space projects. She holds a master’s degree in art history from Hunter College at the City University of New York. Renāte has worked at the Riga City Council, where she developed the city’s cultural strategy and implemented numerous large-scale cultural projects focused on enhancing the well-being and sense of belonging of the local community. She has also served as the curator and director of several placemaking initiatives, as well as the executive director of the “Kim? Contemporary Art Center.” Renāte is interested in the potential of interdisciplinary projects to foster public well-being and contribute to creating more joyful, responsible, and harmonious future cities and societies. She is currently developing an urban community garden for the new campus of the University of Latvia in Riga.
